Renting a Vehicle for Spring Break

Teen road trip

Well, spring is almost here. 7 days to be exact, but hey who's counting? With spring comes spring break. College goers are taking a break from their studies. Families set aside their differences to enjoy a nice vacation together. Many people opt to rent a vehicle for spring break, especially when driving long over distances.

The most common question is, "I have car insurance. Do I really need to purchase additional coverage from the rental company or agency?" The answer is...Well, it depends. "On what," you ask? Well, typically depending on your company, your liability and physical damage (comprehensive and collision) coverage will extend over to your rental vehicle. There are a few variables to explore though.

Your coverage will usually extend over if you are rental a vehicle similar in type, size, and value of your own vehicle. Let's say you own a 2010 Toyota Corolla, but you decided to go down to spring break a 2018 Maserati Granturismo Convertible, it might be a good idea to purchase additional coverage for this vehicle. Your auto insurance will not be enough to cover damages of this vehicle.

Many people assume their rental reimbursement coverage covers a rental vehicle for your spring vacation. Those people could not be more wrong. " Wait. Wait. Wait. Don't click off just yet. Let me explain rental reimbursement coverage. Rental reimbursement is an optional coverage that covers your rental vehicle when your vehicle is being repaired due to damaged caused by an auto accident, theft or vandalism, or severe weather damage. Just to name a few examples. It does cover rentals need if your vehicle is break down and needs to be repaired. It also does not cover a rental vehicle used for recreational purposes. It only covers the cost of a rental when your damages are covered by your comprehensive or collision coverage.

BUT....you may be able to save a few buck by not having to purchase an insurance package from the rental company.

We here at Budget Insurance Agency are here to provide you will all on your insurance needs. If you have any question about your insurance coverage or if you are in need of insurance coverage please visit www.budgetautoquote.com or give us a call at 478-788-9188 for a low insurance quote.
